KELLOGG COMPANY HIGHLIGHTS DONATION OF 230 MILLION BREAKFASTS IN NEWLY RELEASED 2013 GLOBAL CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY REPORT

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., April 22, 2014 – Every day, millions of families around the world rely on Kellogg Company’s nutritious, great-tasting, grain-based foods – particularly cereals – to provide the important nourishment they need to start their days off right. In fact, Kellogg believes so much in the power of breakfast to feed better days and better lives that the company’s philanthropic efforts focus on providing breakfast to those who in need around the world.
Kellogg Company’s annual Global Corporate Responsibility Report, released today, includes progress against the company’s Breakfasts for Better Days™ initiative to donate 1 billion servings of cereal and snacks – including one half billion servings of breakfast – to children and families in need, by the end of 2016. The company is on track to meet its goal, with more than 400 million servings of cereal and snacks, 230 million of which were breakfasts, donated in the first year. The report also highlights the company’s journey in four key areas: community, marketplace, environment and workplace.
“As a breakfast leader, we know how important it is to start the day right,” said Kris Charles, Kellogg Company vice president, global communications and philanthropy. “Through our Breakfasts for Better Days™ program, including our mobile disaster relief center in the U.S. and support of breakfast programs globally, we provide access to critical nutrition for children and families in need around the world in a variety of ways.”
For example, in 2013, the company sent food to communities hit by a devastating tornado in Moore, Okla., to flooded neighborhoods in Colorado, and to parts of the U.S. Midwest following more than 60 tornadoes in November. And through breakfast programs it sponsors around the world, the company provided morning meals and important nutrition to school-children in 28 countries, including Africa, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, U.K. and the U.S.
“Cereal with low-fat milk helps ensure that people get many of nutrients they might otherwise miss, such as protein, fiber, calcium, Vitamin D and potassium,” said Lisa Sanders, Ph.D., R.D., director, global nutrition and scientific affairs at Kellogg Company. “Cereal provides the protein to rebuild and carbs to refuel that we all need to start the day.”
In addition to a review of the company’ s philanthropic efforts, the 2013 Corporate Responsibility report features information on key workplace performance such as the company’s commitment to keeping employees safe, progress on the company’s environmental sustainability goals including a new palm oil commitment, and ongoing work to supporting diverse suppliers in the marketplace.
